I'm alive, but for the Grace of God

In case you've been under a rock or haven't seen the coverage of the mega scary storm that swept through Missouri, Alabama, and Georgia...there was a tornado that touched down in my town. Yeah, it touched about two blocks from my house. There are places that you still can't get into and there are people still without power, water, or houses. Our downtown took a major hit, our hospital is ruined right now, and my fave place to grocery shop is gone, Winn-Dixie. There were people still in Winn-Dixie when it hit. They hid out in the freezer and couldn't be rescued until later that night.
We are really lucky, it killed 8 high school kids in Ala. and we've only heard of 2 confirmed deaths here.
But here en mi casa things are fine. We were without power since about 9 pm Thursday night. I've been hanging out at our house, but we did walk through the damage. I'm going to post pics and explain them, or what you should be seeing instead of the twisted trees and mangled powerlines. I'm just thankful, so very thankful for all that I still have. I have seen so many people who have lost so much, and I just feel terrible for them. So far, they don't want anyone to volunteer, just stay in our homes.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingThis is the view walking down the street we live on. That big wooden piece on the other side was from a gas company on the left side of the street. They also had a mechanic type shop there and it's now flat. Only the steel frame owning that stood over the woodbuilt building remains.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingThis is the old school, they just restored this. It used tax money and now it's totally ripped up. Also, notice the thing in the foreground, it looks like a foundation...it was..to a gazeebo that is now flat and in two places.
In the middle of Elm Ave. the street we live on, this is on the yellow line.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
We aren't sure if someone stole this car and tried to drive around a downed tree or if this is just REALLY bad luck.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Walking around the back of the school, we saw this:Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
We walked further, deeper into the destruction, avoiding the cops and the major traffic jams.
This is one of my friend's house. His family still lives there, but I'm not sure if he did. Photobucket - Video and Image HostingI want me one of these houses, the tree broke when it hit the roof, not the other way around. :D At least all that's messed up is the porch.
Down the street from this house we found this:Photobucket - Video and Image HostingOn the right you can see what used to be a lake that was then turned into a park after someone put mercury in the water and comprimised the dam a long time ago. There were trees all over the place, well...there still are, but you know. There is a picnic shelter out there and there are some red swingsets right out of frame. It was really sad.
From there we looked across the street, to the left and saw:Photobucket - Video and Image HostingThis is the back of what used to be Salvation Army, a few shopping centers, an insurance agency, and Aaron's rent a center. There is a deep valley there that seems to have sucked up all the stuff that used to be up on the hills on either side. There also used to be trees, but yeah. Not any more.
Then I looked at these people and thought about what used to be there.Photobucket - Video and Image HostingA house. There are now only a few cinder blocks that served as a foundation left to mark the house. The man in the blue uniform, hard to see, has stuck with me. He just kept looking around, like the longer he stood there, the more of a chance he stood of bringing back the house he lost. When he put his hand over his mouth, I turned away, it was almost too much to see.
After that we walked into the cemetary to get off of the roads and away from the powerlines. We heard one groan and then zing, still hot. So we decided that the cemetary was safter to see from.
All of the memorial cedars were splintered. A number of other trees were down and a number of monuments were destroyed.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
We managed to get to the main drag, Lamar street, one of the two one ways that is Americus.Photobucket - Video and Image HostingThese are all emergency vehicles coming in to help. They were running lights and sirens. Quite a moving scene.
Walking down Lamar back towards Tripp street we saw these on the sidewalk. It was really sad for some reason.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This store is also missing a large part of its side. Like something very large was hurled through the wall. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
All of our fast food is damaged, windows gone, signs blown away, rooves missing. We turned up Tripp street, back towards home.
This woman lost her business. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It was really sad to see her wander around the wreckage. It looks like everything was ruined. If not by the inital storm, then from the heavy rains that followed.
But we're a strong community. We'll rebuild and make it through this. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting As this WWII (I think??) monument seems to say, "We will survive!"
Please keep Americus and the other cities hit by this storm in your prayers, I know a number of people could use them.

No Knitting for Me

Dave's decree. I can't knit for the rest of the week. I've been whinning of pain in my wrist and my elbow and he said I hadda stop 'for it got too bad and was like for real perm. and stuff.

So I'm stopping. Mostly. I finished a hat in SWS in Natural Plum tonight. My friend who I taught to knit just made one out of the Nat. Geranium color and I needed it after I saw her's finished. She also made a really nice scarf with fringe. She even matched up the colors to have nice coordinating fringes. Way more love that I'd give a scarf. Ah, no matter. She's in the middle of her second scarf, this one for her to be Mother in Law. It's nat. earth and it looks a lot like the walls of Providence canyon or some other stratified dirt place.

Not so much for the pretty words tonight.

The Whitman socks are languishing in the middle of the first leg repeat of the lace pattern. I'm itchin' to get those off of my needles. They next yarn I think will be a tencel mix I got for Graduation from the GREATEST cousin of all, Cal.

I made sock blockers from hangers last night. They were super easy, although I am not sure if ANY of them are the same size/shape. *shrugs* So then I washed my two complete pairs of socks in the sink with some Aussie shampoo and hung them to dry overnight. I meant to wear a pair today, but it was hot so no wool for these toes. I'm sad now that summer is back in. Damn stupid short, mild, joke of a winter. I want to wear warm socks for longer. :( pout pout pout.

For a post with no pictures and no real content, I think it's gone on long enough.

So to recap, no knitting, damn, stupid weather, want to knit.wear more socks.

-> SO feels like Ross.

New Socks- Whitman

I love wearing hand knit socks. It makes me happy to have my creations keeping my toes warm. :D

And, now that I've made 2 pair, knit from about 20 different patterns (socks that died because the yarn is UGLY) I feel confident enough to make my own damn socks. So I am.

I'm making what shall be called, the Whitman socks. I'm using the hand dyed Knitpicks bare I did forever ago and I'm doing 2 on magic loop, toe up. I used the magic cast on from Knitty and the toe given there. Then I got to a point here I wanted to add pizazz to the foot. I googled lace patterns and found the Leaves of Grass lace pattern on Lion Brand's website. So now I am working them with the lace repeating 2 full times and a half time on each side for the instep and then will join them on both sides when I hit the leg. I think I'll use WendyKnits! toe up heel for my heel since the one in Falling leaves turned out so ugly when I did it. And I like the name of my socks, very nerdy of me.

They are using the leaves of grass pattern (his collection of poetry) and the colors look all happy and bright and loud, kinda like a pride flag. Except no yellow and orange. And everyone said he was gay. So that is kinda backhanded, but I think that it's funny all the same. THEN, when I teach his poetry, I can wear my Whitman socks. Maybe I should recite his poetry while I knit them, to steep them in culture. :P

Stalking Crazy Aunt Purl

I've been reading through Laurie's blogs and her archives and I've just been hooting with laughter. So, to show how stalkery I am, I've ripped off this thing she did like 2 years ago.
So you pick three, answer, and then tag folks. I'm not into being tagged, so I'll tag not.

But I'm gonna answer the ones I think I have something to say about and leave the others alone.

If I could be a scientist… I'd invent the wunder drug that cured crazy. There are too damn many crazy people in this world, and not enough drugs to keep them steady. Sadly, I think I know them all..

If I could be a farmer… I'd grow cotton and figger out a way to keep more of it from getting on the ground and try and make it a more effective harvesting system. Have you ever seen a just picked field, cotton all over the ground and tons left on the stalks. Not efficient.

If I could be a musician… I wouldn't play the flute. I've been there, done that, sucked bad. I think I'd play the piano. And I'd be good too, well...it's my fantasy so bite me. :P

If I could be a doctor… I'd treat poor people, people without insurance, and college students who are trying to make it just as good as my patients who could pay. I had a maaaaaaajor spider bite on my chest once in college and the Health center was closed, I couldn't get a doctor to see me, not a one. Greedy bastards. All cause I don't have ins.

If I could be a painter… I'd probably paint a ton of flowers. I think I'm obsessed with them. I love to photograph my gift flowers (tons of valentines rose pics from this am) and flowers I see in the wild. I think they are beautiful and I'm amazed at their delicate perfection.

If I could be a gardener… I'd plant wildflowers and not have so much flower beds as flower yards. I hate to mow grass, and to look out over a sea of wild flowers would rock.

If I could be a missionary… I'd go to Costa Rica and save the heathens of the city of Grecia. There aren't many I'm sure, but there is a slot in a coconut tree in the town square. This city sits between 2 volcans and you can see them and I LUV this city.

If I could be a chef… I'd be like Paula Dean's twin I'm sure. Except tons fatter. I love to watch her cook on TV cause she eats what she cooks, amazing! :D And I'm all about the down home ness and her sweets rock my socks.

If I could be an architect… I'd bring back beauty in buildings. NO more ugly squares with drop tile ceilings. Beauty in the details, like masonry or in moldings. I'd also cost a ton of money to build anything cause details aren't cheap.

If I could be a linguist… I'd bore my friends even more than I do about the English Language.

If I could be a psychologist… I'd prolly get fired for saying "Bitch Please!" a lot. I have no patience for nut jobs.

If I could be a librarian… I'd die happy. I could sniff books and read and knit like all the time. And I'm really good at research, so I could be a kickbutt high school librarian, like Mrs. Irwin at my hs.

If I could be an athlete… I'd be hot, and not so overweight.

If I could be a lawyer… I'd sue the people who made me mad. Or what I mean is, I'd fight for human rights.....yeah...

If I could be an inn-keeper… I'd have a cute b&b in Savannah, but I wouldn't charge $5o08708 a night to stay there. I think those places are really nice to stay, but totally unreasonable cause it's just 4 walls, a potty, and a bed for the most part. It CANNOT cost that much to keep the walls from falling down around your ears.

If I could be a professor… I'd be like Peg or Liz or a little o' both. Peg's all crazy hard and vague, but she makes you work. Liz is all crazy hard and nice and caring. She also gets great work out of you. I'd never be Dr. Davis. That man is a nut.

If I could be a writer… I'd be happy. I'd also scare the hell out of America with the stories I'd tell about me growin' up.

If I could be a llama-rider… I'd prolly figger a way to spin the llama fur. :D And I'd prolly suck a whoooole lot.

If I could be a bonnie pirate… OH, I love this one, I'd be Jimmy Buffett's side kick and we'd smuggle stuff and have burgers in paradise together! Or, I could be Capt. Sparrow's side kick, and umm, lover. :D

If I could be an astronaut… I would NOT be nutso like that lady who tried to kill the other lady recently.

If I could be a world famous blogger… I'd probably not be blogging dumb stuff like this.

If I could be a justice on any one court in the world… Supreme and yes to gay marriage and gay rights. Stupid conservative courts in GA.

If I could be married to any current famous political figure… um or not. Not so into the politics thing.

Randomness at it's worst

I think I'm in a funk. I feel all ick...just not right and not real sure why.

Sunday, I didn't leave the house. I never even saw the sun.

I've been sleeping a ton as of late and it feeeeeels goooooood. :D I'll sleep until like 2, go to bed at like 1am and sleep all the way through again. I just guess I'm really tired. Or maybe I'm dying. That could be it, I'mma die in two days.

And I'm in a slump in my crafting. I've wanted to sew for like a week now, and I had 2 whole free days to do it, but I just couldn't bring myself to put away the ball winder, unpack the sewing machine, get all my gear out, and THEN craft. It just didn't seem like it was a worthwhile project. I've got 2 purses that need linings, a purse I've got pieced but not sewn, and a number of purses working in my head. I need a new tote bag for school, but I'm not into it. I NEED to fix the boy's pants, but I'm not into that either. I've put the pants fixing off for like months. MONTHS. What kind of girlfriend am I?

Terrible.

And I can't follow a pattern any more. I'm kniting feather and fan socks, magic loop, 2 at a time, Wendy's pattern, and I can't keep it together long enough to do the lace in the dang thing. IT'S ONE REPEAT. Just one, and the rest are knit knit knit. And stupid me can't even get that right. Maybe I'm in need of some medical attn. for this funk o' mine. But I dunno. I just feel like I'm waiting for life to kick in before I get committed to anything else.

I went on an interview in Sav. last week, seems positive, but haven't heard if I have the position yet. I think I'm not wanting to do much of anything in case I have to pack up and move in three weeks like 400 miles across the state. I have no real idea of the actual distance, but it's a butt load of a ways off.

So maybe that's my funk. I'm just "between" right now. Like Kate said in French Kiss, "There were a few months a long time ago, but I was between teaching jobs." Maybe that's it, I'm just between.

Many Photos, FO Parade :D

I've been meaning to post a number of photos for a very long time, and I'm lazy, what can I say?

So here we go folks, hold on to your butts...

My Falling Leaves socks that are so much by the pattern.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And an action shot
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Finally, the heel. This looks all weird, and I'm not sure how I managed to screw it up so badly, there are holes in the heels and it looks sloppy.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Any Ideas?

A blanket, the first project I ever started. I meant for it to be a blue scarf, seed stitch, but it was too wide. So I bought a few more skeins of yarn and made it a blanket. They aren't all the same length, but it works as a blanket for me.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting With the thing rolled up, you can't see how bad it looks flat! :D

One Fetching, but I screwed it up too. I read the pattern wrong and missed the part where there was a cable round...who knew?
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

My ballband bag, pre felting.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting I loved knitting this, no brainer and it's a purse, not a washrag. :D Totally easy. Not sure about handles yet though.

And it made a nice Smee hat before I felted it, felt like Hook should have been yelling at me or I should be dodging a ticking croc.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And we have been a tad bored as of late, soooo Scrabble online (don't download from yahoo cause it only lets you play 1.5 times) Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting I helped the boy spell Wooly. :D

Secret Pal 9 Unmasked

I have my last package from my SP9 pal. She is the best ever! I love everything in this package. :D I'm at work, so no pics right this second, stupid firewall. But they are taken and waiting for posting.

For now, a listing o' the greatness:
*A handmade card with a fairy on the front that revealed the mysterious spoiler: TeAntae (accent the first e and the last a). She can be stalked on her blog.....
*a bottle of organic lotion, orange and choco. mint
*2 bars organic chocolate, lavender and milk choco. - is sharing the dark with a friend who lives for the darkest chocolate she can find
*Copy of "The Knititng Directory" - really cool! I am excited to find out how a number of the stitches in there look when *I* knit them up.
*Copy of "One Skein Wonders" - oh yeah, I'm excited to get into the projects in this bad boy!
* A kit for the spa set (pg. 84) with real live bamboo yarn...eep! Can't wait to see it knit up
*A kit for the handpainted highlights socks with some of my frist eva trecking yarn
* Oh, and 3 really pretty stitch markers. One is a beautiful pink bead with silver extras, the other two look like Celtic knots or something really Celticy. Hand made maybe? She's a bead maven, so could be bob.

I think I've covered everything. In each little mini-kit, I got the bamboo needles enough to make the items. I even ended up with a bamboo crochet hook. Oh and tiny little sock needles, :D, for tiny fingers. Too bad about my blunt tools then. :P I'm excited to get knitting on these projects. She's got me stocked for months to come, as I'm the slowest knitter in the world.

Speaking of knitting, I just made a ballband purse with some more of my handdyed. I'm excited because it looks great and I know it will felt beautifully. I even did an attched I cord bind off with an I cord loop for a button. :D Learning stuffs all the time.

Oh and KnitPicks rocks. Their customer service is great. I just deleted this whole paragraph about what happened and am now so mad with this laptop that I'm gonna stop for now before I scream. But yay knitpicks and yay secret pal.

:D

Major Yarn Porn Entry

I got bored at work, now you who read this will have to suffer like I have these past few hours, LUST with me. :D

So while surfing through knitting blogs, I found the Full Thread Ahead blog and attached store (Go here and check out the yarn colors ). [Note: they ship for $5 in the US and Canada....WOW] While looking through the yarns, I found this:
South West Trading Company Tofutsies - Yarn that is made of Chitin, Cotton, Soysilk, Wool. Upon further research at other yarn shops online, I found:
"This is the latest yarn from South West Trading, made from a mixture of yarns including their own brand Soysilk and Chitin (made from shrimp and crab shells, yes really!)
Our feedback so far is that they are hard wearing and soft at the same time.
As an aside, chitin extracted from crab and shrimp shells is compatible with human tissue and has been found to be useful to accelerate healing in wounds." From here.

And they come in GREAT colorways. All of the colorways have a form of foot in them. Is that not the cutest!??? I want: off of the right foot, one foot in front of the other, tender foot, and foot the bill to name a few. :D I think this may be the next thing I put in to the boy for. Like he'd buy it, but he never needs to know what my credit card does on the Internet without him. ^.^ <- Those are horns here :P

Next up we have:
The Great Adirondack Yarn Company Sierra in Plum Loco, this is reallly pretty. Check it out, it's Alpaca. mmmmmm
OH dear. They make sock yarn. *gasp* It's called Caribou and there's also Soxie. Google it, ebay it, love it, buy it. OMG. Oh and Silky Sock. Silk+sock=melty Pineapple, Antique, Cancun, Chili Peppers. MMMM. The colors alone make this yarn worth killing people to make money in order to buy. Oh, wait, I mean...ummm...

This sock yarn is on a brit. site, but still really pretty. The color is very vivid, per my screen at this moment.

And Sheep Shop Two Sheep bulky wool is really pretty too. I like color 043 best, but wouldn't you know, out of stock, damn.

Oh, a party in a skein, Fiesta Yarn's Watermark OOOHHH, AHHHH. ;D Jamacian Spice, my flava.

Ok I think this is enough, plus now I'm sad that I'm poor. I want to splurge and buy yarns mmmm yarns. NO! No yarns. It does not count that you just got a new credit card. No!

Enjoy.

The very funny, ha ha ha... Knitorious Mrs. B tagged me. Now I have to post 6 weird things about myself. Then I am s'posed to tag 6 other people. But I don't know 6 other people. So I may just do this and tag the few that I do know.

From her blog: "I must tag 6 unsuspecting bloggers in the knitting world.....And list the rules... and notify these folks on their blog that they've been tagged."

THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the 6 weird things about you. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

SIX WEIRD THINGS ABOUT LACEY:

1. I love to sit with my feel at a right angle on the couch. The left on top of the right. Strange. I think I got it from my dad. That's how he sits.

2. I walk funny. I used to walk with my feet flung out with both feet pointing out. Also from my dad. I really wanted to walk like him and be like him when I was very litte. But not anymore. Anyway, now I don't walk as funny as I did. But I still walk a bit strange.

3. I am a terrible procrastinator, but I can't really write much unless I have a terrible deadline weighing on me. I seriously cannot write without major stress going on. Very weird to me.

4. I often laugh when people get hurt. I think this is my stress response to worry and sudden fear. I don't think that it's funny when they get hurt, but I laugh anyway, like I can't help myself.

5. I don't like omellettes. Or eggs that much. I eat them, but not every day, or once a week. But I love cheese. I would eat cheese all day every day for the rest of my life if I could. And bread. MMM, crusty cheese and bread.

6. I don't like dogs. I mean, not like I hate them and want all dogs to die, but I'm not fond of them. I like cats better.

These aren't really weird, just junk I can think of them at the time. *shrugs*

Saturday, January 06, 2007

I keep looking at yarn, crusing through yarnshops online, thinking about yarn, thinking about all sorts of knitterly things. And I'm knitting like 12 hrs out of every day. Or so it seems. I seriously knit almost all day long since I'm not working right now.

And while I've been crusing through these yarn shops, I keep seeing roving. And I need it. No, I mean I NEED it. Like part of me says, "So you can't spin, so you don't have a spindle, so Dave said we can't hide anymore hobbies in the current apt., so what. Big, fat, hairy deal." And then another part screams "HEY STUPID, YOU'RE BROKE!" And that second voice almost always wins. Damn these podcasters and bloggers who spin and make it look so yummy and inviting. Lisa Souza, I mean really, people, who can resist that stuff. It's like fiberous heroin. And every time I surf through, I feel the need to smack that vein to bring it up for ease of use.

But really man, I think I have a problem.

So I'll just ignore it and hope it abates.

And the socks are totally kicking ass right now, thanks so very much. I am through the heel, although it's god ugly, and working up the leg. Mostly I'm just through the heel and have not even gotten a full repeat in the leg so far. But it fits my foot, mostly it's a footie. Do you know what a footie is? My granny had them and the juuuust cover your feet, like shorter than an anklet by inches. Juuuuuust over the heel and up to the ankleish area. A footie is what I have as of 2:42 am. And I love them. BUT, I'm real damn tired of knitting them. I've been playing with the same damn sock yarn since before christmas and I'm not gonna be able to last much longer. I need new yarn in my hands.

Speaking of new, well different, yarns, I've been working on my log castle. And boy have I screwed it up beyond beliefe. Fubar-ed it as Dave would say (Fed up beyond all recog.). I somehow got off my rounds and now I don't have stepped up strips, I have equal in length strips. But I'm totally ok with that, because there is no way, hear me NO WAY, in HELL that I will rip out like 4 logs to make this thing right. I'm gonna just knit through it and pretend it is s'posed to look that way. Really, I promise, they meant it to do that right there. It's in the pattern. *flash pattern for .5 millaseconds*

And I've been working on the baby blanket too. I've run out of the blue (first ball) and have wound the second, but didn't start knitting with it yet. It's going to take me until this child is 59 to get this thing done at this rate. Gack. He's already 7 or 8 mts already, I started this thing when he was like 4 weeks. JEEBUS!

So that's what I've been knitting, or not knitting, or screwing up (Fubaring) since I last posted a real craft involved post. :D Ta.

And on to the promised photos now.

A cabled hat I knit for my dad, totally in acry. but he'll kill anything else. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The TOOLS [i.e. needle set from the Boy] that he had a great time in purchasing.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Some hand dyed I did over the hols.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The one on the bottom was done with Fanta and this terrible drink called Tahitian Treat. The top 2 are koolaid.

This is how I did it.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I then sprinkled some black cherry koolaid powder on the bits that stuck out between bowls. I then set it in the sun to soak. When I steamed to set the colors, I added some purple powder to the purple side and sprinkles elsewhere. It was a waaaay cool effect.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting The wool sucked up all the color!

And finally, the cashmere sweater incident. I bought the Boy one at Walmart *is not knitting for him, no curse here* and it was too big. BOY I'm glad I hadn't knit this puppy. :D
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

So there are a few pics to keep you (the one person who may or may not read the blog) interested.
I'm a terrible pal. I've forgotten to mention and to post pics about my last package from Teesweeps. This person kicks major buttox.

Check it out!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

In this package, I got mega oreo enhancement, chocolate fix (totally been gone since the package was first opened, but I did share with the Boy), and yarny goodness.
2 skeins of Claudia handpainted in purple midnight. (What cool colors!)
a pattern for a lace scarf
a set of handmade needles, size 8.

Thanks pal!

I'm very tired of irrationally whinny people. Take all those nuts over on WendyKnits! blog....all in a stir because of Knit from your Stash. They seem to think that Wendy controls the knitting world and will have us all programmed to ignore all LYS for 9 whole months and put the biz out of biz. PUH-lease! As a general rule of thumb, see Lime and Violet for proof, knitters cannot NOT buy yarn. It's like hardwired into us, we need it. It's like a drug, a friggin' fix. So I don't wanna here some uppity whining LYS owner bitch about her/his yarn sales dropping through the floor because we're all gonna knit on the yarn we ALREADY bought from them. And per Wendy, "SOCK YARN DOESN"T COUNT." Neither, my panicked LYS owner, does ROVING. Now, if you cannot sell enough other stuff to OTHER knitters and keep afloat, you shoulda cut that novelty yarn section a LONG time ago Bub. Really, now. If she would have out and out said, knitters, pool all of your yarn money and donate it to a good and worthy cause that is helping to fight cancer, cure aids, and feed the hungry, would they have come out against that???!! HELL NO!

So I ask, really, why get in a snit over a small (compared to the population of China) 200-300 [is stretching this] knitters stop buying hoards of yarn? Who cares!?? Yeah, you won't be able to feast daily or to leave the lights on all night and not care. Big fat, hairy, deal. I seriously doubt that the yarn industry as we know it will topple from this one decision to knit with the yarn they have already paid a mint for. I see Tilly Thomas and all their fat cat friends, along with the piddly indies like Pippie and the Loopy Ewe, with the tiny one horse shows on Etsy and Ebay, all going down the crapper. Really, I do. It's like clear as broken crystal, shattered on the floor of this delusion these folks have. GET A GRIP!!!!

The knit goes on...

So now on to Christmas in my town. Well, this is a post for a contest for SP9...Tacky Christmas Lights. I cannot imagine who would have anything worse than these, but God help them if they are out there.

First, a house to prove that Southerners aren't all tacky and that we can do it right for the most part.

This house is nice, a few lights, a lit tree in the window. Tasteful.

I give you: Willet Way Wonderland. It's the street name, except for the Wonderland part, and they even have signs that they had made to lead you off the big road down through the neighborhood. Although signs are a bit too much because you can see the glow from SPACE!
At the stop sign, facing the "wonderland."

And now for some closeups to give you an idea of how godawful.

Blow ups, for days...

And for the kiddies, all their fave cartoon characters

Oh, also for the kiddies, a real live santa. Get out and go sit on his lap.

You know you have TOO many lights when you rope them off [with more lights, naturally] and then put up signs warning ppl of the danger of entering the yard.

Yeah......

Merry Christmas to All.

And to all, a BRIGHT night. :P
So this will be a photoheavy post. Sorry. Must do it for many reasons. This is going to be the Christmas post. I will post more heavypic posts later too, soooo...I'm gonna be a pic blog for a few days. :D

Christmas at my house...

Our little grapevine tree that stays up all year. We did deco. for all the seasons and holidays, but that got old after 2 yrs. I have a great set of purple balls painted with Mardi Gras masks that I handpainted. I love them, but we could never remember when Mardi Gras was so it became too much like work.

Here are a few close ups of the ornaments... I am not a little girl, just have the heart of one. And no, it does NOT sit in a jar on my desk.

A set of glass flamingo ornaments came from someone last year, in homage to my obsessionette. [The ette is because it's only a small obsession] They have Santa hats on ^.^

The ornament I had to have from his mom last year. I put in for it when we went Christmas shopping.

And my grad gift from my aunt, to remind me each year at this time of my commitment to the profession. And my commitment to the home...I'm sure it's gonna happen any day...Millegville here I come. :P

And in the oven, constantly.

My g-men. Except they aren't trying to catch me at the still. Dave and I love these suckers, they come all flat on a sheet and you cut them out yourself. How much fun?! You get to skip all that hassle of actually mixing the crap up. And you have to wash like 4 dishes.

So far, that's about the only Christmas going on here. We went to Cordele yesterday and had Christmas with his Stepdad's people and my Dad at his house. It was sad at the Stepd's because the matron died this summer, Nothermom. She was the grandmother and everyone used to try and make it for her sake. This year, without her, there were fewer than 20 people. Usually, it's like 25-35 people in that one house. Whole families skipped this year. It was sad. And we all knew that this would be the last because the oldest child, Janet, the one who organizes this and has it at her house, is getting rather old. Her husband has Alztimers and isn't doing so well, so this was a last time deal. Oh, and one of the siblings is movin to be closer to her kids, and after that, she won't be able to make it anymore. Oh well, I guess I have no regrets, let them all feel like butt after it's all over.
We had a really good time and it seems sad that I won't be going there for Christmas anymore. I guess it would have ended once we went to Savannah, but still...it's like the end of an era. Que sera.

Ok, so I have one question...WHY?

Visit these two links and explain to me the purpose of each item.

Tampon Doll

and

Used Tissues

I simply CANNOT imagine why in the hell one would spend money on these things.

*shakes head*

That last post should have been posted Saturday afternoon, but well...I didn't do it. I didn't do much after graduation. I went out to eat at Roman Oven (THE bestest pizza place EVA) with my mom, brother, Donald (the step-dad-boyfriend), Dave (My boyfriend), and Cal, Dave's bestfriend and my cousin. We at largely and roundly. :D Then Cal came back to our place and we hung out. Well, I crashed and slept for like 2 hrs and they hung out but yeah. Then when I got up we all went to Waffle House and ate. MMM. I saw 3 of my students there. And then today I saw a student. WTF? At least now I don't have to deal with them in class AND in public.

But the fiber-related thing about grad, I got sock yarn from Cal for grad. :D I told him what to buy on eBay and he picked out some for me. YAY! I have 2 skiens of Lorna's Laces, Shepherd sock in Watercolors. And then a mega hank of some independent sock dyer on eBay. I love them both and will post pics on a diff. day.

I'm slogging away through a mdk washers for a swap. I love the pattern and all, but I feel like I HAVE to knit this and it is really bugging me. I Dunne why, but it is. I also am knitting a pig shaped pot holder for his meme for Christmas. I'm gone stuff it and let it ride as a toy. I don't want to knit it either. I am not really sure what my issue is right now. I just don't want to be knitting any of the stuff I'm working on right now. I have 2 socks that I'm magic looping (first time! ) and I guess that's what I really want to be working on. I guess I'm an addictive person cause I was totally wrapped up in Midas awhile ago, and now I'm all socks. Then I'll get socked out and be ready to be addicted to something else. *shrug*

Off to knit more mdk. grump grump grump
May I please have your attention:

*Ahem*

I is a collage graduit.

Thank you. That is all.

We now return you to your previously scheduled blog programming.
